Stevan Dohanos is famous for his covers on the Saturday Evening Post. We do not know where or if this painting was published. Most likely it was done on assignment for a major newsstand magazine and perhaps for an interior story for the Saturday Evening Post. The stark and perhaps eerie graphic nature of this landscape recalls Charles Burchfield but the homey Americana aspect reminds us of Norman Rockwell and the great and underappreciated illustrators of the “Golden Age of Illustration” of which Dohanos was a major part. The painting is also a statement about wood in the before and after stages.. Work is unframed -
