The Bowery was a den of lost souls, down and outers and extreme substance abusers. On many Bowery blocks the alcohol soaked bodies were piled up. For a passersby The Bowery was dangerous. For many of the local residents the Bowery was the last stop on their journey. Mitchell Funk breaks with tradition and shoots street photography in color. Today in 2022 this does not seem like a big deal. But 52 years ago in 1970 it was quite a trailblazing effort. Color captures something that is missing in Black and White.
