Masterfully executed pre-photoshop, it's actually an in-camera multiple exposure that uses a Day for Night cinematographer's deep blue filter. It was done decades before color photography was considered fine art. Funk produced 20 covers for Modern Photography magazine in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
