The present work exhibits a storytelling and illustration art style created before the mass communications age. It was rendered in a flat linear style by the highly talented Maginel Wright Enright Barney, the sister of Frank Lloyd Wright, for a Harper's Weekly interior story, "The Blue Hood." The illustration captures the energy of a peak moment of drama. An aggressive young boy with fists out lunges toward a weaker boy with tears running down his face, who finds safety in his mother's arms. Facial expressions and body gestures effectively advance the story's narrative. Signed lower right. Faint caption in pencil reads " Violently reproached Jeffers attacking an invalid child". unframed - Overall size: 10.75 x 14 inches
