I was trying to create a photograph I had never seen before. In today’s fine art world of galleries and contemporary museum shows, there is very little original thinking. By comparison, the 1970s was bursting with invention and innovation and it seemed that each month Artforum presented a tidal wave of idea progenitors. Those times forced you to be a creator and not a copier. So I gave up street level photography and pioneered roof level photography. In this work, I photographed a 5 inch paper playing card so that it occupies as much pictorial space as a 40 story building. That's one idea. The other idea is that, the 1950s cheesecake bare breasted nude makes the shot even more daring as it sits next to a 100 story phallic symbol. br This is a straight shot done with a 20mm lens at max depth of field assisted with a direct and overly intense light source. So how was this pic done? The 5 inch playing card was in my left hand, and my Nikon was in my right. br I used a 20mm lens and stopped down to max depth of field. br Making sure I had a perfect day with intense light, I composed the card so that with would occupy as much pictorial space as a building and then snapped the pic.
