I am holding a 3 1\\u002F2 red plastic toy cowboy in my left hand. In my right hand I have my Nikon. I shot the toy with a hot-shoe flash on a unusually foggy night. Oncoming traffic yielded a bleeding glow of yellow light. To enhance this ephemeral effect even more, I breathed hot air directly onto my lens. It made the yellow and red glows more dreamy . They form a nice composition separate yet together in the picture. I was looking at this shot as more of an abstract color-field painting with positive and negative spaces. I was just 2 years out of art school and still under the influence of my great college art teacher, Robert Richenburg. He was a first generation abstract painter exhibited with Still, Hoffman and Pollack and gave wonderfully inspired chats about the expressive and mystical use of large swatches of color for colors sake.
