Photograher photographs his own paintings. I wanted to create an image I had never seen before. I had seen portraits. I had seen landscapes. I had seen war photography. I had seen photojournalism. I had seen still lifes. I had never seen a 12 foot red car resting on the roof of another car in an impossibly precarious way. I proceeded to do a photograph out of my imagination. I painted a 12-foot long red car based on an illustration in an old Fortune Magazine. Once finished, I silhouetted it. I glued it to the back and a thick piece of plywood and positioned it on top a car in the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers, New York. I chose the side of the John Wanamaker department store. This location was attractive because of the block long white wall. ( see attached, other stock photos of the location ) It provided a simple and graphic background. The grid structure on the wall echoes the yellow lines on the pavement. As with all my work, this is a very early example of staged photography...done 42 years ago. br Robert Funk is a pioneer of Staged Photography, Miniature Photography and Thingie Photography. He was widely published in the late 1970's and early 1980's. He published a article on Stage Photography in the early 1980s'.
