An elephant walks the early morning streets of New York as three bundled up youths watch. This is a straight shot. The elephant is a small bronze sculpture and it's being held in my left hand, while my Nikon is in my right. First light dramatizes the fantasy look, as an open manhole shoots hot steam into the frigid art. Strong compositional elements add to the simultaneous soft yet graphic natute of the image. Robert Funk is a pioneer of staged and miniature photography and wrote an article on it in Peterson's Photographic Magazine, March, 1979
