The technique and subject matter work well together in this loosely but masterfully rendered World War 1 romantic illustration of a Soldier and a Parisian woman. Even though this work in about 100 years old it has a fresh quality to it. Wilmot Emerton Heitland conveys drama with darks and lights in a moving composition that is dominated by two foreground figures while in the background, we see umbrella pedestrians walking through and rainy Parisian night. Once you look at the drawing and design of Wilmot Emerton Heitland almost all contemporary artists - even those selling above $100K - look amateurish. The work presents better in person and is quite large. Signed lower left. Titled in pencil lower right. Sheet 27 x 21.5. Unframed
