I was at Ithaca College in 1970 and 1971. I attended two lectures by Rod Serling when I was at Ithaca. He was a film professor there at the time. I also sat in on a lot of his classes. His lecture room was literally 3 feet from my psyche class. I used to lean my chair back and look into and listen to his class while simultaneously listening into my psychology class. Mr. Serling was always walking the halls of Ithaca College but you could never actually see his face. He was always encased in a cloud of cigarette smoke that followed him in step as he walked. The man was literally a walking body of legs, torso, and arms and just a dark circular cloud of cigarette smoke for a head. I always wished I had the guts to get right in his face snap a pic of him. He personified himself. br My memory of Mr. Serling and his ‘Twilight Zone" lectures is not that sharp since it was 47 years ago. I did have an epiphany the other day watching a ‘Twilight Zone" marathon on the SciFi Channel. Rod Serling was using toys, miniatures, and dolls in his work and all were endowed with special powers. Remarkably, I started using toys, miniatures, and dolls in 1973. Is there a direct nexus? I can not say. Even though I was listening to Mr. Serling, I was not watching a lot of "Twilight Zone" on TV. Nonetheless, after see “Living Doll”, “The Invaders”, “Five Characters in Search of an Exit” “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”, I can not be certain if there was any indirect influence on me. What I am certain about, is that I was the first still photographer to be published in a major photography magazine using Miniatures and Toys as a constant theme. It was Camera35 magazine in 1977. In the photograph on this page, " Driving Home" I have a toy red car placed in the street in the flow of traffic as if it were a real car. Look closely at the windshield of the little red car. You will see a black and white face. It's a picture of me. I pasted a small photo to fit the tiny windshield space to give a human presence to the toy car
