sign of a young inspired artist is when he devotes all of his attention
to the process of painting and not the process of measuring.. The upper
left hand quadrant of the canvas is narrower so Goodnough tacked the
canvas directly into the stretcher below instead of wrapping it around
the side. This works namesake evokes the wonderful action of positive
energy that is the hallmark of "Action Painting" during the early and
mid 1950's
Robert Goodnough has fallen in the cracks of art history and to some
extent has been passed over. He participated in the Ninth Street Show.
Along with the Armory Show, it's arguably one of the seminal moment in
American art.
