After Hector Hyppolite, Philomé Obin may be Haiti's most significant painter.
In
the present work, Philomé Obin creates an all-over pattern of
harmoniously spaced elements with no central point of focus. There is a
balance and proportionality to the pictorial elements, vegetable,
animal, and mineral, that project a feeling of peaceful coexistence and
hence the comparison to a Peaceable Kingdom theme.
Signed lower right in Artist's monogram.
