A prostrate homeless man becomes part of the streets' design. His horizontal shape fits into the horizontal lines of the cable car track, the curbs, sidewalk, and building masonry. With the help of a low camera angle and dramatic lighting, the man becomes less of a person and more of a graphic element within the overall streetscape. The homeless in San Francisco have literally become part of the architecture of the city. br Mitchell Funk brings the compositional precision of studio photography to street photography. br Unlike most street photographers, Funk is an abstractionist while being a documentarian. br Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum.
