For decades the Bowery as the home of a huge vagrant population in New York City. This 1970 portrait captures a derelict with piercing blue eyes that echos his blue state of mind and the blue background and clothing. There were no happy people living in the Bowery. The man holds two crutches under his right arm while his stare speaks of the hardship and despair of living on the streets of New York in the early 1970s. Color captures something that is missing in Black and White. It's a greater sense of realism. Signed and dated on the lower right, numbered on verso, 2\\u002F15, another size available, unframed, printed later, Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper. br Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum.
