The is an historically important example of a union of Art and Photography. Empire state building was photographed with direct light and with a polarizing filter to get a saturated sky and dark contrast in the foreground building. Funk the used an exacto knife and precisely cut swirls onto the emulsion of the 35 mm Kodachrome slide. He then re-photographed the work on a Repronar with sandwiched red and magenta gels to give the swirls a riot of color.
