Jacqueline Marval is of the same school as Kees van Dongen, Matisse and Marie Laurencin. Les Odalisques is quite contemporary looking with it's main figure having joyful life and vitality to her. Some refer to her as a Fauve and some as a post-impressionist. Clearly, she is an overlooked female artist. This work is over 100 years old and has a fresh optimism and spontaneity to it. We included a black and white photo of the artist to give an idea of the age he was painting and how ahead of here time she was. There are conditions issues and craquelure throughout.
