Berman gives two views of the same image. The wide view depicts a surreal arid rocky Italian landscape. However, in the lower left-hand corner, Berman paints a man-made stone portal built into the rock showing two figures. This is a very creative concept and is consistent with the artist's surreal roots br Berman was fascinated by solitary figures amidst ruins, and much of his work explored space and the passing of time. In his paintings, he showed fascination with architecture, a subject that he often explored with eerie landscapes. He toured Europe extensively, especially Italy, to learn more about architecture and developed a special interest in the Baroque architectural drawings of Giovanni Guercino. Work is framed in a simple wood frame of the period br The work is initialed and dated with the artist's monogram in the lower center and it's signed with the artist cipher, dated and titled on verso.
