New owner must be willing to include the work in the forthcoming major exhibition of the artist work at a major museum. This of course will increase the fame and value of the work br In a sense, this work represents the 3rd nuclear attack on the Japanese. Social commentator and artist Ben Shahn depicts Aikichi Kuboyama in a powerful black and white study. Kuboyama was a crew member on a Japanese fishing vessel who died of radiation poisoning following the 1954 H-Bomb test on Bikini Atoll. Along with his crew of 22 , they inadvertently wandered into the above-ground nuclear weapon test zone and got covered in the white dust. br "Kuboyama" from Lucky Dragon Series, 1961 br signed lower right, br retaining "Santa Barbara Museum of Art", "The Jewish Museum, New York, NY" exhibition labels and the "Downtown Gallery, New York, NY" label. br Float-mounted, glazed and framed. br 39" x 25", framed 41-1\\u002F2" x 27-1\\u002F2" br Provenance: The Downtown Gallery Inc., New York, New York, 1961; Estate of Carol A.
