Revolutionary artist and illustrator Bob Peak creates a stunning work of golf-themed art that straddles representation and abstraction. Clearly, Peak drew inspiration from the color-field movement being featured in galleries in downtown Manhattan. Their work was about the interaction of blocks of color. Here, Peak shows his distinctive hybrid style of narrative art expressed in large swatches of color but painted with expressive brushwork with thick accumulation of paint in some places. Notice how almost all of the figures are so well delineated with a deep knowledge of academic painting and rigorous attention to body pose and anatomy. Peak has rendered almost every figure in this work of which the total number of rendered figures exceeds 200. The work was most likely done for an assignment for Sports Illustrated Magazine. Signed lower right. It is executed on a heavy masonite-like composition board and is unframed. Color will vary from monitor to monitor. When viewed in direct light the colors become more saturated and brighter. Bob Peak was a legend in the 1960s and 1980s. Today he is known mostly for the vast number of movie posters....especially Apocalypse Now. But Peak was more than just Movie Poster Artist. He was the most innovative and inventive illustrator of his time. And his work more than holds up today. The work is signed lower right and is unframed. Presents very well in person. Unframed
