In the late 1960', computers were different then they are today. A whole
room was required to accommodate an IBM mainframe. It's here that this
romantic scene takes place: in the privacy of HVAC units, tape
cassettes, and blinking lights, a dashing young man and a stunning woman
find a place for an intimate encounter. Herb Tauss's post-impressionist
painting is a double-page spread that appeared in the October 1968
issue of the Ladies' Home Journal. The work is characterized by quick,
loose brushstrokes with a moody palette of browns, grays, and ochres,
punctuated by primary colors from the computer terminal's light. The
overall feel is soft and muted, conveying the subject's emotional and
psychological state as they seek a place to hide and make love in the
office without being discovered. Signed lower left, framed in an elegant
modern frame with Tru Vue Museum glass to a size of 25.75 x 19.25 -
Provenance: Fred Taraba
The work looks better in person. Best viewed with a top gallery type lighting to bring out color
