Ray Johnson, 1960/1963. Mail art assemblage titled "Grey Envelope
With Hinge," consisting of an envelope mailed from Johnson to Buecker
with a hinged wood element, displayed in a shadowbox frame. Framed by
Buecker. Frame measures 16 1/2 x 18 1/4 in. Reverse bears Buecker &
Harpsichords stamp, handwritten note Ray Johnson Feb 27, 1963 Do Not
Repair, and a Nassau County Museum of Fine Art loan label documenting
exhibition from February 7 to April 8, 1984.

Ray Johnson ( 01927 -1995) was an American collagist and conceptual
artist, best known as the founder of the New York Correspondence School
and the pioneering "mail art" movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Drawing
on collage, pop imagery, and performance, his inventive, enigmatic works
helped lay the groundwork for Neo-Dada, Pop Art, and intermedia
practices.
