Fantasy illustrator Hector Garrido conceives and executes a surreal fantasy scene jampacked with strangeness. The artist captures an erupting volcano spewing fire into the sky. In the foreground, a four-eyed, large-tusked white wild boar is seen with its snout out of the ground, unearthing roots. He stands in front of an old wooden church. The flora, fauna, and exotic topography suggest the scene is on Hawaii's Kona Coast. Garrido is a master at creating visual drama with high-contrast fire reds juxtaposed against a blue sky and the white of the boar set against a dark background. The palm trees are defined by directional orange rim lighting. Garrido's painting is magical, mysterious, and haunting as it succeeds in illustrating a dramatic story for a commercial assignment: " Cover art for Fires of Eden by Dan Simmons (New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1994). This is a large work with high visual impact and looks better in person. Unsigned and unframed. Board size 29 x 20 in
