Ray Johnson, creator of the Mail Art Movement in the early 1960s, bypassed traditional galleries to distribute this art directly through the U.S. Postal Service.
Mail art assemblage titled "Box With Hinge," created from a mailing box sent from Johnson to Buecker with collaged boards attached by a hinge, signed and dated March 2.
Framed in a shadowbox by Buecker, reverse bearing Buecker & Harpsichords stamp, handwritten notations “Ray Johnson March 2 1963” and “Do Not Repair,” and a Nassau County Museum of Art loan label documenting exhibition from February 7 to April 8, 1984.
