It's a photograph of one unstretched painting resting on top of another unstretched painting. As paintings, they are at same time images and objects. As images, they are high key graphics intended to project to the masses as advertising propaganda. As objects, they are uniformly flat woven fabric that has height and width but very shallow depth. You can see the tape residue on the top canvas. You can also see the top and right edge of the canvas. The issue of depth of field, flatness, and perceptive are dealt with in this work. The paint impasto creates tiny shadows. The subject matter is a 50's beer ad. They are painted in a photorealistic manner by my father Milton Funk, who was an illustrator.
