If there was an Art World award for originality, this image would rank very high. Not only is this a pioneering example of staged photography but it also employs a unique visual technique. When light strikes a printed photo or illustration, the glossy ink will reflect the light. In this work Robert Funk has the cutout illustration function as an image of a soldier and toward the top its a silhouette of a soldier.
